Inspiring Audio was awarded a Armed Forces Community Covenant grant to deliver a unique project to generate mass community awareness, create genuine impact and give something back to armed forces families through hosting children’s workshops with schools and youth clubs in/around London’s military bases, and creating educational audio/visual series to help children explore the role of the armed forces in modern Britain. Our aim was to breakdown some of the barriers – real and imaginary – that exist between children from military and civilian families.
To create mass community awareness and deliver impact, we created a 15 part audio series for broadcast and online download, with visualised versions based on the radio series using animation and real images for online and YouTube.
Please watch an example episode here:
Targeting children aged 12 and under, the series WAS fun and entertaining in tone but retaining strong educational elements at its heart. The series is currently being broadcast on Fun Kids radio and BFBS, and is available to community based radio services
We also hosted 8 school based workshops bringing together children from military families and local communities. These workshops provided a behind the scenes view of a radio station and how music and speech programmes are made, and allowed children to be radio presenters and record their own audio about living on / near a military establishments and the impact it has on their lives.
The audio series was broadcast on Fun Kids, the UK’s only radio station dedicated to children, and BFBS, which broadcasts radio services to military families in British overseas bases, and remains available to listen again online and for download through iTunes.
